Driving licence checking, done properly

If someone drives for your business, you are expected to know they are legal to do it — not to have known once, at hire. DV Check runs the check against DVLA directly, with the driver’s consent collected by email link, and keeps checking on a schedule that follows the risk.

What a check looks at.

  • Licence status and entitlements

Whether the licence is valid, and whether it carries the entitlement category for the role you have assigned — company car through to HGV articulated, from the full DVLA taxonomy of 24 roles.

  • Penalty points and endorsements

Current points, the endorsement codes behind them, and disqualifications — straight from the DVLA record, not from what the driver remembers.

  • CPC and tachograph cards

For drivers whose role requires them, the check covers Driver CPC and tachograph card as well as the licence itself.

  • A verdict, not a data dump

Every check resolves to pass, concern or fail — eligibility and risk separated, so you can see in half a second whether anything needs your attention.

How it works.

  1. Add the driver

Name, date of birth and address — the details DVLA match a licence against — and the role they drive for you.

  2. They consent on their phone

A secure single-use link goes to their email. They enter their 16-character driving licence number — something only the person holding the licence can produce — in under two minutes.

  3. The record comes back from DVLA

The check runs against DVLA directly. No brokers, no third-party databases, no photocopies.

  4. Re-checks run themselves

Every three months as standard, tightening to monthly at six or more penalty points or any licence problem. The schedule follows the risk, not the calendar.

Why not just use check codes?

The manual route — asking each driver to generate a DVLA check code on GOV.UK — works for one driver, once. The code expires in 21 days, has to be regenerated by the driver for every check, and leaves you running the chase, the check and the record-keeping by hand, forever.

DV Check replaces the chase with a one-off consent: the driver confirms once, on their phone, and every scheduled re-check after that runs without them lifting a finger. The result lands as a verdict, and the record keeps itself.

How DVLA check codes work

Pay per check. Nothing else.

Buy prepaid credits; every check — manual or scheduled — uses one, and the per-check rate falls as the pack grows. No subscription, no per-driver fee, no minimum term. If DVLA can’t return an answer, the credit is refunded: a credit buys an answer, not an attempt.
